My OEM timing belt number is discontinued: can you still supply it?

Update Time:2026/11/3

Direct answer: In most cases yes. A discontinued part number is a catalogue label, not a manufacturing limit. What actually defines the belt is the tooth profile, the pitch, the tooth count, the pitch length and the width. Once those are known, the belt can be built from a standard size or from an existing mould, even when the original supplier has stopped listing it.

Old belts usually still carry their profile and length marking: B160MXL is enough to start a cross-reference.

How a discontinued number is converted

  • Read the marking on the belt back. Most numbers combine a profile suffix (XL, L, H, XH, 3M, 5M, 8M, 14M, T5, T10, AT10) with a tooth count or pitch length, plus a width code.
  • Confirm the profile by measuring pitch: the centre distance between two adjacent teeth identifies the family faster than any catalogue.
  • Match on tooth count and pitch length, not on the brand name. Two belts with different numbers are often the same geometry.
  • If the length is not a standard mould, discuss an open-end build cut to length, or the nearest standard length with a small centre-distance adjustment.
  • Approve a dimension drawing before production for anything non-standard. That single step prevents most wrong-belt shipments.

Pitch and tooth form matter more than the number printed on the belt: 3M-405 in 3 mm pitch.

What to send with the enquiry

InformationWhy it matters
The old number, plus any second number on the beltGives a starting point and often reveals the original profile family
Photo of the belt back and of the tooth sideLets us read the marking and count teeth without shipping the sample
Tooth count and measured widthThe two values that most often decide whether a standard build fits
Measured pitch length, or pulley diameters and centre distanceFixes the length when the marking is worn off
Machine make, model and drive positionHelps confirm tension, speed and any cover or backing requirement
Open-end timing belt coil used for cut-to-length replacement supply
Open-end belt in stock can be cut to a length that no longer exists as a closed mould size.
GOODLY is an independent belt manufacturer. Brand names such as Gates, Continental, Bando or Mitsuboshi are mentioned only to describe compatibility. We are not affiliated with those companies and do not supply their products.

Send the old number and a photo

Email sales@goodlybelts.com with the belt marking, tooth count, width and a photo of both sides, or use the enquiry form. We will confirm the closest match, say whether a standard size fits, and quote the custom option if it does not.
