Can vulcanized belts be made in custom, non-standard lengths?

Update Time:2026/10/22

Short answer: vulcanized flat belts and transmission belts can be made to almost any required length — as a truly endless loop produced in custom lengths, or as open-end strip that is joined (vulcanized) into a loop of the exact size you need. Standard production covers a wide range of widths and pitch lengths, and non-standard lengths are routine for a manufacturer with in-house vulcanizing equipment; the practical limits are transport length for endless-molded belts and joint quality for joined loops.

Two ways to get your exact length

Endless molded

Cured as one continuous loop in a mold. Uniform strength, no joint — best for high-speed drives. Length follows the mold range available for your section and width.

Open end + vulcanized joint

Strip cut to your exact length, then the two ends are vulcanized into a closed loop. Nearly unlimited length freedom, including very long conveyors and retrofit sizes.

Custom width too

Along with length, belt width can typically be customized in small increments from the base slab range — useful for matching worn OEM parts.

On-site joining

For very long installations, open-end strip can be shipped in sections and vulcanized at your site, avoiding oversize freight for a huge loop.

Custom lengths are produced by cutting strip to size and vulcanizing the joint, or by molding an endless loop.

How to specify your length correctly

  • Measure the existing belt exactly: total pitch length (inside or outside circumference, state which), width and thickness — or the center distance and pulley diameters so we can calculate it.
  • State the joint type you expect (endless, or vulcanized splice) and the duty — speed, load, direction of rotation.
  • Mention the environment (temperature, oil, dust, moisture) so the compound matches the length choice.
  • If replacing an OEM part, send the original part number as a cross-reference along with your measurements.

Typical tolerances and practical limits

ItemTypical practice
Length tolerance, cut-to-size stripCommonly within a few mm per meter; tighter on request for precision drives
Width stepsUsually customizable in fine increments from the production slab range
Very long beltsOpen-end strip joined in sections; joints reduce continuous strength slightly
Endless moldedLimited to available mold sizes for the section and width
Exact dimensional capability depends on the belt section (fabric-supported flat belt, V-ribbed or special profile), compound and joint style. Figures above are industry-general ranges — send your dimensions and we will confirm feasibility and tolerance before quoting.

A vulcanized splice restores near-continuous strength at the joint area.
